Women in the developing world face great challenges breaking into information technology and taking leadership roles in the field – especially in news and technology design. Chicas Poderosas is addressing this challenge by helping to bring Latin American women into the forefront of digital journalism.
With support from the Dow Jones Foundation, the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is partnering with Chicas Poderosas to launch the third annual Dow Jones Digital Fellowships. The Digital Fellowships will give two women journalists from Latin America the unprecedented opportunity to work in U.S. newsrooms that have strong, digital- and data-focused operations.
The selected fellows will be placed in a host newsroom for one month. During that time, they will strengthen their digital-reporting skills through practical experience. The fellows will develop creative reporting projects that leverage data visualization, graphic design, and interactive storytelling to examine and illuminate current affairs. Each will be paired with a newsroom mentor who will offer guidance and support during and after the fellowship.
Selection will be based on professional qualifications, leadership potential, and commitment to developing digital-reporting skills. Applicants must be proficient in English and have some experience in:
- Editing/working with videographers, photographers, and illustrators
